Now it’s not every day that you get to find out ways on how to increase your site’s ranking. If you are just starting out and want your site to go up the ranks, there are a few things that you would need to do before you achieve that success. So where do you start? As it was discussed in CJ Bowker’s article entitled “Google Magic Trick”, he shows us how he was able to take his newly created WordPress blog site to rank high in the search engines.

That definitely means that you are getting free traffic and it also means good things for your site. If you have people coming in to look at what your site’s got to show, then it could also mean more visitors if they like what they find and tell their friends. It could also mean income for you if they click on your Google Ads or any other ads network that you might have setup in your site.

And if you are into affiliate marketing, setting up your own list builder and promoting your affiliate products could also get you some income monetized from the traffic coming in. So what did he found out about ranking a site? Well, it’s quite interesting to know about Google’s supplemental index wherein links crawled by their spider are placed here. It’s a place where they keep the links to be categorized for another time, you could say like it’s an observation or probation period for a link until they could figure out where your link fits best.

You might be asking the reason “why do they have to quarantine a link and not just put it up in the search results?” Well, Google’s making their searches a really high quality one. As a user, you wouldn’t want to waste your time searching and searching for what you are looking for, and that’s their main goal. To provide a really good experience for users when searching through their site, it’s something that I’d also like myself.

So what’s the best thing to do to let Google and the other search engines rank your pages well? Based on what he did, he created a robot.txt file that directs Google’s spider crawler to which pages he would want to be looked at and which ones to avoid. Now how does this help you out? Telling Google to go where in your site’s pages helps them save a lot of time of going through all of your site’s directories and files. I guess that once you have this setup and Google knows about it, they would consider giving your site a Page Rank for putting in the extra work.

If you have a WordPress Blog, you could find the KB_Robots.txt plugin that could help you out in maintaining the robot.txt file. Just install it and you could edit the file in your admin page.

Another thing he mentioned was, he took out the little icons that link to other directories or sites that would help him get traffic. But he found out that Google doesn’t like this kind of linking strategy, so he just removed them.

If you got and take a look at his site, I’d say that what he had applied really did his site a really good thing. It ranked high in only a few days with good traffic coming in too. So if you’re trying to figure out how to make your site’s ranking go higher, I’d recommend applying these two steps he mentioned and see for yourself that it does work.

Do you have other methods on how to improve your site’s ranking that you might want to share? Any comments and suggestions are welcome here. I hope that you found this article interesting and helpful.
